Hiring Floor Removal Before Your Installer Starts
Installers do not start on a half-cleared slab. Here is what 'finished' actually means and why it protects your new floor.
Your flooring installer is booked, but your Las Vegas floor has not been removed yet and you are choosing a demolition crew. Ask whether the quote includes adhesive and thinset, not just visible tile or wood.
What a finished tear-out looks like
Finished does not just mean the old tile or wood is gone. It means the slab has been scraped or ground clean of thinset and adhesive, the edges along walls and door jambs are done, the tack strip and nails are out, and the debris has left the house. The floor should be swept so the installer can actually see the concrete.
Why installers are strict about it
Most flooring manufacturers publish requirements for how flat and clean the substrate must be before their product goes down. Installers follow those requirements because they are the ones called back when a floor fails. If the slab still carries lumps of thinset, the installer either has to stop and fix it or lay over it and hope. Neither is good for you.
The question to put to any contractor is what the installer will actually see when the floor comes up. We discuss the installer’s flatness and cleanliness requirements before removing material, then show you the slab so the next trade can inspect it. A tidy room alone is not the same as a substrate ready for the product you chose.

The problems that come from rushing
- Tile laid over old thinset tends to sit unevenly and can crack at the high spots
- Floating floors over bumps flex and click when walked on
- Glue-down products do not bond well to old adhesive or dust
- Installers pause mid-job to grind, which throws off everyone's schedule
How we hand over the slab
Our job is not just to remove the floor; it is to give the next trade a surface they can start on. That is why our floor removal work includes taking the setting material down as well. When tile is involved, our tile and stone removal page explains the extra steps a mortar bed or heavy thinset needs.
Timing it with your installer
Talk to your installer before you book removal and ask what they need on the day they arrive. Then tell us. We would rather know up front that they need the slab ground flat than find out after we have packed up.
For floor removal in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas or elsewhere in our service areas, call (702) 985-1599 for a free estimate. We will walk the site, discuss dust control and the slab or space your installer needs, and give you a clear scope before you decide.
