Rent a Floor Scraper or Hire a Las Vegas Removal Crew?
Nobody can honestly give a number without seeing the floor. Here is what actually decides how long a removal job takes.
You have a tile or glued-down floor to remove in Las Vegas and the rental counter has a scraper available. Before loading it, decide whether you can move the machine safely, contain the dust, haul the debris and leave a slab your installer can actually use.
For a small, accessible room with a loose floor, doing it yourself may be reasonable. The fair comparison is not a rental ticket against a crew estimate; it is the whole job from moving the machine in to getting the last adhesive and broken tile out.
The machine is only the start
A ride-on or heavy walk-behind scraper is not a household tool. You need to know its weight, how it will get through doors or across thresholds, what power it needs and how you will transport it back. Even with a machine, corners, doorways and tightly bonded patches take hand work. Ask the rental counter what happens if the blade does not suit your floor.
What happens to the tile and glue
Taking the visible flooring up is not the same thing as preparing the slab. Old thinset can stay in hard ridges; wood and VCT adhesives can remain tacky or bonded to the concrete. Ask your installer what surface they require before you decide whether the rental solves the problem. A floor that looks empty might still need grinding.

Dust in a lived-in house
Neither a rented scraper nor a professional crew makes demolition dust free. In an occupied home, you also need plastic barriers, a plan for vents and returns, and a way to manage fine dust rather than sweep it into the next room. Ask us about negative air and HEPA filtration for your layout. Protect children, pets and anyone who needs a quiet or clean room away from the work zone.
Debris and disposal
Broken tile, mortar and old flooring become heavy quickly. Think through how you will move it out without damaging finished areas, where it will be contained and who will take it away. Our crew handles haul-off as part of the removal scope; you should still ask for it explicitly when comparing quotes.
When DIY can work, and when to call
DIY may be practical if the surface is small, easy to access and your installer confirms that the remaining slab needs little preparation. Hiring a contractor is worth considering when the material is strongly bonded, the house is occupied, the slab must be clean for the installer or the machine and debris are too much to move safely yourself. We are licensed, bonded and insured under Nevada contractor licence #0079188 and have worked in the valley since 2012.
If you uncover old vinyl tile or suspect adhesive, stop and seek qualified testing before disturbing it. We do not test for or abate asbestos. If you are unsure about the floor, a walkthrough is better than guessing with a blade.
