How to prepare your home for demolition day
Thirty minutes of prep makes the crew faster and your house cleaner.
Clear the rooms. Furniture, rugs, closet contents and anything on low shelving should be out of the work area before the crew arrives. Every item we have to move is time on your invoice.
Take down wall art in adjacent rooms. Jackhammers and ride-on scrapers put vibration through the structure, and picture frames do not enjoy it.
Plan for the pets and the parking. Dogs and demolition do not mix, and we need space near an entrance for a dumpster or trailer.
Expect the water and power to be needed. Machines run on jobsite power and wet cutting needs a hose bib.
Finally, decide in advance what stays. Baseboards, transition strips, appliances and cabinet hardware are all things we can save or scrap — but it needs to be decided before the tools come out, not during.
